Children's Sunday School begins at 10:00 am
We hope to see you there!
It has been a fun and exciting summer this year. Although our Sunday School numbers are low, it did not keep us from having a great time with each other. There was tons of field trips and activities, way to many to mention. I loved our 4th of July trip across the Pali for a scenic tour then a quick stop for red – white – and blue shaved ice. But the highlight of this past month was our “camp,” a sleep-in at First Christian Church. Friday evening was basically a set-up night. After we set up, we took a drive and had dinner out at Mc Donald’s. We returned and had a nice evening playing board games. We spent Saturday morning cleaning windows at the church then had a wonderful time at the Magic Island Beach Park that afternoon. The kids were having so much fun I had a tough time getting them out of the water and back to the church! But, as I told them, it was getting late and what is a camp without s’mores? We set up a small fire and the girls, all six of them, roasted marshmallows and we all had way more s’mores than we should had. We could not help it – they were delicious! The girls finished off the evening by putting together some puzzles, playing hide-and-seek, and telling stories. After a brief Sunday School session Sunday morning, we took a trip to the Waikiki Aquarium. It was actually the first time one of the girls had been there and she loved it! We spent the remainder of the day swimming at the Makiki Pool. Again, it was tough getting them out of the water and we were there until closing. Overall, it was an awesome weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it- well, except for the early five o’clock wake-up on Saturday morning.
I am looking forward to Miracle Week. We have learned so much about the miracles Jesus performed for others that I feel this would be a great way for the children to see that it does not only take an act from Jesus to create miracles – in a way, anyone can create “miracles”. Any little thing we do for others may in fact mean just as much as a larger act. I am hoping to get the children involved in Miracle Week somehow just so they have a hands-on idea of Miracle Week and experience the act of charity and hard work for the benefit of others. However, school will be in session and I am not quite sure how we will squeeze it in. We will figure something out though.
One of our Sunday School regulars just had a birthday this month. Brianna has been coming to our church since she was just 3 ½ or four years old and we celebrated her eighth birthday on the 25th! I am so proud of her dedication in coming to Sunday School each week. Most times, she arrives before I do! Since it was her birthday, we postponed the zoo field trip and went out for an ice cream birthday celebration. I will reschedule the zoo field trip for a later date.
As you can see, it has been quite busy and with Miracle Week just around the corner, I expect August to be just as busy! If you have given us a recipe for our planned cookbook, thank you. If not, we are still more than happy to have your recipes included. Thank you.
